About a week back I bought a 08 GS500F from a guy on craigslist. Long story short it's been stolen before, the thieves took the CDI, a coil, airbox, speedometer, and had hotwired it. But it had a clean title with current registration so for 450$ I bought it.
Ordered a CDI and a coil and waited. Everything has arrived, plugged in the CDI (which says its from a 2009 model), connected the coil, tried starting it and nothing. No spark even with the plugs against the case. I checked the coil to the boot on both sides, remaining original coil reads out 31k, brand new one reads 14k. Not sure what this means but I'm guessing the new one is bad. Checked the wires from the coils to the CDI and all seems fine.
I think it might have to do with how they hotwired it but all the lights work and function at the key, although its an aftermarket ignition with different colored wires so im totally lost with how to fix it. Any advice or help with either matter would be appreciated.
What does the manual say about the coil.
Also the 04+ bike has a single trigger coil set up, under that round cover by your right foot. That could be bad.
There's also a reading for it - look in the manual.
Cool.
Buddha.
Check that the safety switch at the clutch is functioning ok and that the kill switch is wired right. Either of those can stop the spark too.
