Title: Reject washers questions
Post by: mentalshark on September 06, 2021, 05:53:25 PM
Hi,

I have been working on my bike for a while now, and now i have all the parts to reject my 04 gs500f. The information I have found lead me to went with 20/65/142.5 setup since I have a lunchbox filter in there with stock exhaust. I got really confused with how many washers I should use on the needle. The carbs were opened before and it came with a 1mm thick washer under the plastic washer. I have a box of washers that are 0.5mm thick. So when people say 2 washers, how thick of the washer are they referring to? And did the bike come with a 1mm washer out of the factory?

Many thanks!

Oh yikes, you got 4 washer equivalent there. Look in the parts diagram. The thinner washer on top of clip is brought under the clip in an 01+ carb. That = 1 washer, another of that same thickness = 2 and you're already in "too much" territory there.
So you're in 4 much - I think.
These washers are like 1/2 mm thick.
Cool.

Also I prefer to put the washers between plastic spacer and the e clip. That way you dont lose them when taking them out, cos the spacer is a tight fit on the needle, it keeps the washer from dropping off, and you have the same contact surface as designed, this plastic on the plastic of the slide.
Cool.

The plastic spacer is really tight and I wasn't sure if it would came out. And there is no good way to grab it unless the eclip is removed. With my experience with e clip they tend to fly away and I am a bit scared to remove it...

Man it is a tight fit, but wd40 and finger persuasion - and yes dont futz with the e clip, it comes downward toward the taper.
Cool.
