Hi all
Just bought a 2002 gs500 not long ago
It has a lunchbox filter and straight pipes - bought it this way.
It had been rubbing poorly due to a mechanic putting original oem jets inside the carb resulting in huge amounts of gas flooding the oil and having that mixture burning.
No long term damage as I rebuilt the carbs with a 6sigma custom jet kit and flushed the oil and changed the filter.
Seems that no oil is burning whatsoever and plugs look very good.
Problem is
That I get about 14km per liter and I don't push it
Ride mainly inside a small city and 2-3 30minute rides on highways (120kmh cruising sixth gear).
I'm not sure what the size of the jets is but I can find out. One thing I know is that these are not standard jets - they are custom made.
Bike is running good and plugs look well.
Any ideas where to look?
Another issue I have is with the Koso D55 speedo which seems to be showing lower speeds.
When going 90kmh on the speedo - Waze gps shows speeds closer to 130kmh😅
I know that there's some voodoo that needs to be done with magnets on the front wheel but no idea how and what

You will have to open the carbs and look for:
Jet sizes
Needle code to se if it is OEM and how shimmed it is.
pilot screw is covered?
gunk
but you know that.
but if its running well you have to decide.
I personally dont like the headers without muffler.
it will be more difficult to make it run right, and with no exhaust and a K&N maybe you will get around 20km per liter.
for the speedo, check the manual. And rely more on the odometer to check it.
it may be acting as the wheel were smaller.
Remember it counts the rotations with a sensor and calculates the distance traveled based on the tire circunference to show calculated speed.

Thanks
I'll be going back to a muffler some time in the future but now just trying to figure out the fuel consumption
The carb has jets and a needle from 6sigma
The petrol in you oil is not from jets, its from the needle not seating. This can anlso lead to high petrol usage, Im guessing th efuel level in the bowls might also be way high.
You need to follow this great page.
