Title: It's been a while
Post by: dafatrman on February 22, 2023, 11:47:16 AM
What's up everybody?  Time flies and it's been 12 years or something like that since I sold my GS500.  I've had several bikes since then and have my dream bike now, but I find myself looking into getting another GS for commuting.  My Super Blackbird gets the same mpg as my Nissan Frontier.  I remember the good ol times in Orlando FL where my bro on his GS500F and I on my GS500E would run em wide open through everything.  Footpegs, kickstand, exhaust all had rash from corners.  I read the reviews on the GS500 from way back when and they were talking about how it didn't handle very good.  Whatever I bought it and looked at how the frame is built I was immediately impressed.  It was the gs500e that I learned how how to corner!  So yeah I sold my bike to a guy on here.  I'd have to look back into my messages to remember who, though it's not important lol

I would like to find a basket case motorcycle in pieces.  I do not care if it has no title.  It would be cool to put one together from pieces because while you have it apart you can clean paint powder coat etc and I can wind up with a decent looking bike 🤷
Also would like to get it as cheap as possible 🤣
Not looking to buy right now I'm just saying hello and why I'm back.

Hello!  I love the gs the same!  I'm always looking for bikes but the gs is still my #1,...

I love my GS500 but honestly if I was going to rebuild one from pieces I would start with something a bit bigger and nicer.

The work you put in you will never get back but rather put the work in to a 5k bike that will be easier to sell than a 1.5 k bike.

Think a bandit, for example.

Why would you put all the work into a frame with no title? If you are going to do a frame-up restoration/build at least make it road legal and have some resale value.

Either way, welcome back! You can still find rough GS500s for under $1,000 if you wait long enough, although it doesn't seem like there are as many out here as there used to be.
