last Sunday I was riding along on a country road, another bike with passenger overtook me. I followed him about 50 meters back for a few minutes. There was a side road ahead and as the first bike passed this @$$hole turned left just behind him, not even looking if I was there.
A typical case of "I did not see you"!!! Turned into a case of "I did not see you but you were going too fast." SHEES, was a shame that in a country where people are mostly responsible I had to hit this idiot.
I managed to brake and try to go left to avoid him but lost traction and when down the bike hit his hit his right rear wheel and I luckily rolled a few times, but behind the car and did not hit anything...
I , very gratefully got away with a bit of stiffness, really glad i was fully geared, glove knuckles were ground down, but strangely, not a mark on my helmet. I consider myself very very luckily. Oen of those accidents that reminds oe that one has to be defensive ALL the time...
I might consider getting a small camera now that stays on the bike. Would have LOVED to have seen the assholes face if I took tat out after all his lies, but alas...
Bikes OK very small ding in tank, need new front forks and fender + handlebar and levers, screen maybe, new headlight ring, maybe new footrest....
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE.

Sounds like you came out of it all okay considering how bad a crash like that could be.
Respect to the GS500 for being able to hit a car head on and just need new fork tubes.
A few years ago I added a front and rear always on dash cam to my GS. There aren't many options that are on with ignition, waterproof, and have front and rear recording (at least there weren't a few years ago). Innov is the brand I went with. The video quality is meh. I think the video compression is a little too high. You aren't going to be reading the license plate off cars unless it's right in front of the camera but it would help in your scenario. It's nice that I never have to think about it. Once a year I try to pull the memory card just to make sure everything is still working.
As we say in my shop "For going bad it went pretty well."
As far as the cam goes, if you don't want to go the GoPro route or the way Bluesmudge suggested I would highly recommend a Sena C unit (10C, 10C Evo, 50C).
In addition to being an in-helmet bluetooth unit for music, comms, GPS, etc, it's also a helmet camera that, depending the model, can record in up to 4K resolution.
I use the 50C personally. Sounds great, looks great. Haven't needed it legally (knock on wood) but I do often save videos of close calls and the likes.
Here's a preview of the latest one I got. This was filmed in 1080P @ 60fps with Electronic Image Stabilization, then subjected to YouTube's awful compression so it doesn't look as good as it does on my PC.
