Title: Gs500f Fairing Painting
Post by: Jeepqueen1 on April 01, 2024, 03:48:33 PM
Hey guys, I own a 2005 Gs500f, and it's pretty nice except for one thing:  the fairings.  The previous owner was a little too short for the bike and dropped it a couple times and have scratches them pretty good in some spots.  I was wondering if anyone has any experience painting or wrapping them and what their experiences were.

I painted mine a long time ago. It didn't turn out great, but it looked better than the scratched up fairings. Eventually I found a new used set of fairings in good condition to replace it all.

I've had a little more experience painting things since I tried. Now I would clear-coat it all with a 2-part catalyzed clearcoat like 2k clear. It's a much harder clear coat that you can wet sand to look like a factory clearcoat job.

Yes, it's hard to go past modern 2-pack automotive paints, starting with a high-build 2K primer, then a 'basecoat'colour coat, finally a 2K clearcoat.
