Title: Choke won’t stay engaged
Post by: Tim-gs on April 13, 2024, 05:15:27 PM
Well please help. I got a 2006 gs500f that's been converted to a gs500e. Anyways it got messed up in a hail storm in 2018 and has sat ever sense. I got it basically for free from a friend in exchange for some mechanic work on his car. I'm currently working through getting it road worthy and the problem I'm stuck on is that the choke lever will not stay down. From what I've seen online is that it's missing a spring inside the left hand controls. I cannot find the spring for sale and the left hand controls I bought off eBay do not have the spring inside either. Can anyone confirm or help on this issue?

Tim,

The choke valve on the carb has an internal spring so, you need friction in the cable or the other side(handlebar ) to stop it going back and closing. this is to ensure it always closes.

Any spring should do if you are able to make it fit, its simple enough.

In some cases the choke plastic lever is snug enough to retain it from going back, maybe shim it with something plastic from one side so it is not so free.

Thank you much! I forgot to check back on this and ended up figuring that out on my own. Now have a headlight problem I'm struggling with I just posted about
