Title: Stalling at high speeds
Post by: Kkroeze12 on May 01, 2024, 06:00:43 AM
Hello everybody,

Since two weeks I am a proud owner of a Suzuki GS500 from 89'.
It is a lovely bike to ride. But it has a few things. Note: I am not really Technical.

When I ride it at 100km/u, around 6000rpms it behaves like it got no fuel. I found a great tip to set te petcock on PRI. It worked till a few days ago. It did died again. It looked like there was enough fuel. I did set it to be sure on RES and drove to the nearest gas station. Then put around 12 liters of fuel in it. But it is a 17 liter tank? So why did it died with 5 liters in the tank?

Also when I stop after a ride, it idle around 3000rpms. Is it not a bit high?

And last. The exhaust pipe has a leakage, could it be the problem why it runs not great?

Can anyone help me :icon_question:

you need more diagnosing, at least open the tank and be sure how much fuel you burned, if you have a spill, etc

Also consider it failing because its getting hot, not the 6000krpm, are you really sure it fails only in that spot?

if it is that spot only you should check for carb related problems

3000krpm idle seems your carb is all messed up or your idle speed is set too high also.

use choke to diagnose, make sure it is closing and opening.
check sparkplugs color.
