Dear all, I have noticed that my bike has developed an small oil leak in two places on the front top of the clutch cover, where it looks to be weeping out of the gasket. I say gasket but it looks to me like it may be sealant of some kind, judging by the bits I can see. I hadn't noticed any leaks there until just after I topped my oil (pretty sure it's not overfilled) the other day so my questions are 1. can adding oil cause or contribute to an oil leak? 2. do the bolts around the clutch cover tend to work loose and would it be worthwhile trying to torue them up before looking at replacing the gasket? 3. I have not long changed the oil, so would rather not empty and replace it again so soon but can I afford to wait or do these types of leaks tend to get worse quickly and 4. Where is the best place to get a replacement gasket? Thank you all in advance!
1. yes if the oil level is closer to max it increases crankcase pressure to create an oil leak at the weakest point
2. maybe you can tighten them a bit to make sure
3. It's been a while...from what I remember...I believe if you place the bike on the sidestand, you don't lose much oil chainging the clutch cover gasket. I have had some luck spreading some gasket maker on the gasket edge, to stop the leak until it's bad enough...no point repacing the gasket if I don't absolutely need to.
4. I'm not sure where you live, but in the USA there are many websites and local dealers to purchase a gasket

Sorry for the long delay - my anti virus software kept on sending my strong warnings about the site. I have obtained the gaskets etc and have removed all of the clutch cover bolts but I cannot undo the two screws on the timing plate (?) to get access to the last two bolts. Every screw driver I have tried has just stripped the phillips head out and they seem stuck fast. Any ideas? If all else fails then I will very carefull use my dremel to cut a good groove for a flat head screwdriver to get purchase...
The screws aren't phillips type they are JIS that's why you are having trouble undoing them.

All the screws on the GS are JIS type.

which screw? impact driver, the little push inside and twist motion combined is magical.
cheapest works,you can fit sockets also, a 2kg mallet mass hit and you are done. its a must for the bike in my opinion
the pickups plate you mean? i dont thin its necesary to remove or yes, you have along allen beneath that, cant remember
