Title: Best Engine Oil for a Newbie: Is MOTUL 5100 10W-40 4T Suitable?
Post by: LiranT on July 22, 2024, 05:51:18 AM
Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie here and I'm looking for advice on the best engine oil for 1993 GS500e. I've been considering MOTUL 5100 10W-40 4T. Is this a suitable choice?

I've read the wiki, but I want to make sure I'm making the right decision. I'd love to hear about your experiences and get some new oil suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your help!

10 40, whats your climate? any oil works, change it often, clutch particles tend to contaminate it. summers are rough because air cooled.

If its mineral oil, I go by the manual (it's already conservative). If you use Synthetic, then I go longer than book. maybe 25% longer. THe only real advantage of Synthetic is its longer lasting.

At the risk of starting an oil thread...

at the end..

Most engine wear takes place in the first minutes after cold-starting, as a result of the time it takes for oil to circulate to all parts. Thus wear prevention is mainly a function of the additive package, and not of the molecular origin of the oil itself.
