This is it. My dual headlight wonder.
These are the brackets I fabricated. They attach to the bolts underneath the triple tree. Swanky huh?
I also added these turn signals. I fabricated the extensions because, well... they were just too short. I couldn't see them if I was standing anywhere other than right in front.

wow...it just keeps getting better :)
wow, that's a cool looking GS!
Looks great. Are those the Buell lights ($60)?
A bit much on the orange guage covers for my taste buy YMMV.
Nice job on the lights!
That looks Awesome! :thumb:
The paint job is very cool, and the headlights look really good as well. The brackets look very professional.
damn...you have one of the best GS i've seen
great job :thumb:
Yeah Pablo, they are Buell Lightning headlights. Somewhere around $60. You don't like those guage covers? Shame on you. Oh, by the way, what does YMMV mean?
-Anti
i was just thinking about the dual headlight idea the other day and was goin to do a search for them.
awsome job man
i think if you had the time to fabricate these brackets and do a write up on the installation you might be able to sell a few of these, wink wink nudge nudge :thumb:
now swap those forks with gold anodized usd forks and that would be a major killer look
Hey Pablo,
What ever happened to the solo seat cowl idea we were discussing. Something to cover the rear portion while we don't have our significant other holding on. I want to see the dream again!
-Anti
Thats one tight GS.
Anti, your bike just keeps getting better and better! I wish I had your talent. Keep up the good work! :thumb:

I don't know if this is the dream you wanted to see again, but here are the pics I originally hosted for Pablo:

that looks cool, especially the gauges in orange... the paintjob is very nice.
:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
what happened to that small flyscreen?
I have dual headlights as well, but I managed to fix it all on the standard headlight holders, it's a bit of a bodged job  but the result is nice 8)

Dual headlights rule :thumb:
Wow, I like the painted gauge covers idea - it brings a little 'live' to that part of the bike...
Thanks, D.
That looks great. Especially like those professional looking brackets. :thumb:
I went the twin headlight route, but used the existing mounts.
However, now I'm fitting USD forks I'm gonna need to re-think how to mount the lights. Don't think the 37mm fork brackets are gonna fit on the new 52mm stanchions! Though ideally, I'd like to retain the original side brackets if I can, simply coz I like 'em.

:dunno:
Sean
I'll agree with the masses...excellent job on the headlights!!!
All these bikes look good!
:thumb: Fantastic bikes!!!! :thumb:
Awesome looking bike. I wouuld like to see some more pictures of the bike. Maybe some before and after.

I was thinking I'd slide aluminum tubing on the fork legs with ears welded on them. Then bolt a triangular piece to them which will also carry the turn signals... and fit the head lights to that just like you did. Of course the aluminum tubing can be swiss cheesed... with large and small holes and made lighter/cooler... and you can paint it balck or blue or other fancy color (If you thought of painting it mauve - that means you are ghey) and make it look like polka dots.
Cool.
Srinath.
Thought of the tube idea, but don't wanna cover up those lovely gold forks! :)
Sean
I think it looks like ass... :nana: ...no wait, that was another thread!!
...Kidding...
Looks very sharp
Nice work Anti :thumb:
I want to see this bike in person someday.
Thanks everyone.
Kerry, Yes! that is awesome. Perhaps if there was a front to it it would be perfect. Are these going to be produced? I would love to cover the rear of my seat when I'm solo.
If you look at the wall of Fame under motorcycles on page 8, thats a before. I had a F-16 screen, but I think I will go back to all natural now.

Antibody's "Before" Pic
Well I think I found my first mod! Cool bikes guys!
Nice lookin bike, I like the orange gauge buckets. So I'm guessin you bought the helmet then painted the bike? or were they both custom painted? Anyway real nice lookin.
I noticed in the "before" pic you have Icon boots; how do u like them? I was seriously looking into them vs. regular Timberlands.
I'm a bit curious Antibody.
As SWEET as your bike looks how come you haven't gotten rid of those chunky pegs and installed something a little more racer like? Huh?
Quote from: SeanThought of the tube idea, but don't wanna cover up those lovely gold forks! :)
Sean
That's why you drill big holes in it. And paint the tubes black so the inside forks are very obviously visible.
Cool.
Srinath.
Anti, that bike is so nice! I think yours is the general route I want to take with mine. Want to make me some brackets?
Quote from: The AntibodyHey Pablo,

Got too busy to continue persuing the project. I'm hoping to have all this work I've been doing pay off in the form of enough cash to buy either a Honda Superhawk or an Aprilia Falco...go liter twins!
Was there any special wiring job required for the twin conversion or did the new light plug right in? I've been looking for some twin lights for my 96 that didn't require any major re-wiring.
YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary. ;)
damm good y'all.
Well,
Kingleo75, The wiring harnesses don't match, my friend (the electrician) made a new connector and wired it for me.
Rich500 your not going to sell your bike? If your not and you want some brackets, They can be done for $25.
Flash, I really want to get different footpegs, I just haven't yet. Someday.
gitarman, actually, I got lucky. I designed the painjob, then went to find a helet that would match. I was about to buy a white one when the Icon Primary in orange/white came out. The Icon boots are quite nice. I sometimes wear them when I'm not on the bike.

My twin headlight just plugged in - but it's a 'universal' type (not Buell).
It had a connector that looks like the rear of a H4 bulb and you just use the stock headlight connector on it...
D.
anyone got info the the dual headlight setup from the bmw rockster? they are different sizes and looks totally bizarre and i love it. the little bugscreen's not bad either.

Hot bike. Hot biker.
'nuff said.

Yo Anti, those headlights are sweet. I like your "after" setup better. Orange rules! :thumb:
hey if you want to get rid of your f-16 screen, seeing as you dont need it anymore ;) , i'd gladly take it off your hands.:)
looks :o WOW i love the headlinghts i want to do that to mine now!!
quinnbozz, it isn't that hard to make those brackets. You can bend them with just a simple propane torch, or you could probably just heat them up on your barbeque grill.
Here's what you will need:
2' of 1"x1/4" steel
a bench mounted vice
two big crescent wrenches
a drill and drill bits
a bucket of old motor oil
a propane torch
big vice grips or channel locks
Cut two lengths at 8". It's the perfect length so you won't run into your speedo and tach cables.
Put one piece in the vice , heat it with a propane torch for a couple minutes and twist it 90 degrees with the two crescent wrenches(You will be amazed how easy it is to bend).
Dip them in the motor oil to cool them off and temper the steel(makes it retain it's strength).
Drill one 10mm hole in one end to mount them to the bolts on the triple tree that hold the handlebars down.
Grind the ends nice and round
Do a test fit, and you will notice that you have to angle each bracket about 1/2" inward toward where the new headlight will be. Just put the pieces back in the vice and heat them back up with the torch and bend carefully. It may take four or five test fits to get them to hang right. I used the vice grips to make these bends.
Drill a 1/4" hole for the headlights(which use 1/4"-20 hardware, USA! USA!). I did this last.
Paint em.
 for the windscreen? you mean the twin headlight right?
yeah, those brackets antibody made are for the headlight.
Wow, that's got to be one of the purdiest bikes I've seen around here. The orange gauges are hot as hell.
Additionally: I kinda like the look of the naked front wheel in Sean's top picture:
Is there any (safety-based) reason not to remove the cover?
The cover that I think you are talking about is the fork brace that keeps the forks from torquing around during turns. Look at srinath's thread about the new fork braces. He is selling a super heavy duty fork brace that will ideally provide better traction from the front wheel.
Dom-
I think he's talking about the actual fender...not the brace. In that last picture, you can see the flimsy, super thin steel brace on the bike.
Milo-
Is that right?
The fender causes water from spashing all over your engine headers and frame and, if I recall correctly, your legs as well when you make turns. Definitely not suggested if you are a witch...very unsafe.
Yeah, I meant the fender, not the brace. (Thinking about getting a Srinath brace anyway.)
Hmm, so I guess there is a safety-based reason to keep the fender. Oh well, I suppose it stays for now.
There isn't really a safety based reason...IMHO, the front fender is purely a creature comfort, to protect you and your bike from splashing water and mud.. If you are a fair weather rider then it shouldn't make much of a difference.
My bike is also sans front fender. Just make sure to:
A.) don't ride in the rain unless you want to be extra wet
B.) always keep your visor down as the arc-tangent of pi^2 r to front wheel causes every sand particle to pierce your eye. some kind-of-magic-JFK-bullet type thing
Quote from: jiggersplati emailed the local bmw cycle dealer today... about $600 :)
The cheapest place for beemer parts is
http://chicagobmwmotorcycle.com/But they probably are just pretty dang pricey. When I have more money than brains - a lot more - I'll get a Rockster or Roadster.
Anti, that bike looks awesome! I like the orange gauge covers. :) Are you going to get a fairing like your old one in the Before pic? Be a pity to cover those back up again.
how hard do you think it would be to mount the twin lights verticaly in stead of side by side like 8 instead of 00
Here are my half ass twin headlights. They looked more jacked up in the photo than they actually are, the pic is a funny angle. Took a quick one this morning. Anyhoo, I threw these together quickly so I could ride when the funky bulbs in my fairing burned out (see my post "Product Warning". These did the trick for a quick fix, I'll probably clean it up later with some nicer lights. I bolted the brackets the lights came with to a piece of flat steel and bolted that to a bracket I had from the shield of an old bench grinder. It all bolts into the gixxer triple clamp where the wire loom retainer screws in. Pretty convenient - A bolt and a 3 prong plug is all I have to undo when I go back to the track and the whole thing cost me $30.

Quote from: quinnbozzhow hard do you think it would be to mount the twin lights verticaly in stead of side by side like 8 instead of 00
Hard...at least if you were planning on using the original Buell mounting points. You would have to fabricate a bracket and figure out where to mount it from. I looked at my bike and tried to think about it, but lemme tell you, it's a can of worms, a big can of worms. If you have a welder, no prob, but paying someone to do it will cost you some triple digit clam.
:o wow little expensive for me:( , maby i'll keep tossing it around thou. I think it would look really sweet think if it was a bmw headlight with the diffrent sized lights, have the smaller one on top :thumb:
but ya i did the same thing i sat there and looked at my bike and went :? .................... ok i give, and went inside
anybody know where i might be able to get these headlights
http://www.whaccessories.com/HesaFairingTyp6small.jpg
i think something like that would look :thumb:
what's the part number of Buell twin headlight? how well does it well (light output) compared to stock headlight? know any online Buell shop?
thx
I wanted to revive this thread to see if anyone has the original pics of the mounting brackets he made.. I am mounting my dual buells this weekend and anti had the best install yet :thumb:
damnit i remember that one too
I'd like to see the original pics again too. Anti's bike was one of the nicest GSes on the board. I seem to remember it in the old Wall Of Fame.
Bump
ANTI.. you still there ??? :)

I took a long hiadous in Peru. Not really. I'll look for those pics. Apparently my host went down. If anyone is stil interested let me know. I will put up new pics as soon as I can IF I can.
Dom helped alot with his explanation of the fab work. Almost matched what I did to a "T". Good work Dom.

Welcome back! Would love to see the pics! And pics of Peru, too! ;) :thumb:
Great to have you back,Anti. Post up some current pics of the bike... O0
