Title: 2006 GS 500 running issues
Post by: adilfa on August 03, 2024, 02:31:07 PM
Hi yall. I have a 2006 GS500 with 11k miles on it. Previous owner had it sitting for years and didn't get around to fixing it. When I bought it it wasnt running right. I have cleaned the carbs, checked for vaccum leaks, and replaced the petcock, but it still is not working. It is working and idling fine, but when I give it throttle the revs either drop or hang. I have cleaned the carbs multiple times and I have triple checked everything, but I have reached a point where I genuinely do not know what's going on. I have linked a video of it running below.

have you changed intake boot orings?
how long you use the choke till its warm?
i would just use it for a while and see the problem, if it develops or vanishes, carbs need use.
then you would star to know where the failure is if it continues.

turns out on mixtures screw?

Yeah I ran the choke for 30 minutes and even on choke the throttle is lagged and capped. I checked the intake o rings and they are in good condition.

That buzz it makes when you rev it is worrisome; It's like you can hear the cam chain, I would check the tensioner.

For running issues, I would check the slides and diaphragms, maybe the slides are not opening correctly. Also, be sure that you didn't mix up the position of the main and mid-main jets upon reassembly--does the exhaust smell really rich when it stalls?

it could also be something loose like the dash. i would test pushing into several parts while revving to see if it changes or stop the noise.

The diaphram and slides are good. I checked them and they are not getting caught

The best advice is to work through this, Josh did a great job writing this up back in the day , before he went to fuel injected bikes 😉

i would try adding half a turn, so you are 2,75 turns out, check it, you are still in the healthy range
