Title: Tire Choices
Post by: chris900f on November 13, 2024, 07:24:12 PM
So it seems we have pretty limited tire choices with the stock 130/70 rear.

I know people get around this by going to a 140, does this work on the F bikes...looks pretty tight, how much clearance for the chain?

Also, has anyone got experience running 80 series tires like 130/80/17, 110/80/17? Does it lift the bike very much or cause issues with the stands etc?

There is no difference at the back end between the unfaired and faired versions, it's all exactly the same. The 140 rear fits fine, a 150 will need the brake bar bent a bit more to fit. An 80 series fits fine as well, plenty of room for it. I have used a 140/80/17 rear without  any issues.
I do recommend the Bridgestone bt46's - they suit me.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, It looks really close, I thought something might have changed.

As for the 130/80's I found this tool online https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=130-80r17-130-70r17 (https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=130-80r17-130-70r17)

With the bike on the center-stand, I propped the front up by ~11m (110/80 diff), which lowered the rear to where there would not be enough clearance for the 13mm required by the 130/80; so the center-stand won't work and I'm not tall enough anyway  :D --too bad I would have liked the "cushified" ride on the backroads.
