Title: 99 GS500E Idle Creep- Advice Needed
Post by: Asher on April 04, 2025, 12:38:22 PM
Hello Everyone! First Post here so sorry if its a little botched:

I bought a 99 off marketplace and it needed some work- TLDR re-wried half the harness, needed plugs, and a carb/fuel tank clean and a handfull of other things.

It'll start up just fine without choke- and then do 2 things: Idles at 4-5k or start at 2k then ramps up to 4-5k+ withouth touching anyhting (I tried adjusting the idle screw but it dosnt seem to do much)

The bike didnt have the vacum fuel pump or the airbox when I got it so I  tossed a new petcock/pump on with the KN Lunchbox. I'm pretty sure it has the stock Mikuni CV carbs and going through the FAQ:  Ive made sure the throttle cable/return spring  are free and not sticky.

Im just confused on why the bike slowly creeps up RPM by itself without touching anything.

The only thing I can think of is the carb needs to be rejetted/tuned for the KN filter but I have very little experince with these CV Carbs (the bike is  like the same age as me lol)

I have 0 clue how the previous owner had this thing running and riding with the issues it had  lol.

Any advice is appricated!

Anyone have a good source for those jets?  Im in the same boat but ebay looks like a dry hole. also Im guessing the order is 22=pilot 65=main 147.5=sec?

you should buy at least 3 sizes for each jet , one bigger and one smaller to fine tune.

for ebay sellers i bought twice to some seller named alconstar and the package never arrived, they supposedly use a no tracking cheap shipping that sometimes get lost..they usually refund you if you reclaim it soon enough.
