Title: Magneto compatibility
Post by: John600 on May 03, 2026, 11:56:07 AM
Hi all

First post - sons got a 2002 gs500 and charging issues have led us to a broken magneto - magnets are cracked/in pieces - goats syndrome I believe.

Can anyone confirm 100% that other gs engines magnetos fit?

I know gs400 do - what about gs550 etc?

Time is short as we go to the Isle of Man TT in 3 weeks.

Hey!

I don't know where are you from, but here in Brazil we use the Suzuki Yes 125cc magneto instead of the OEM.

But it need some little adaptation. I suffered two times with the oem.

Thanks for the reply. I'm in the UK. What adaptions does the 125 need?

We need to remove the top cover where the magnets are glued in and replace it with the one from Yes, which is shielded and doesn't cause this kind of problem anymore.

I had to reapply the glue twice on mine before I came up with this solution.

I know you probably won't understand what's being said, but here's a video that will give you a clear visual idea of what needs to be done.

If you still don't understand even after watching it, I can easily translate the video for you.
