Title: Dual Exhausts?????
Post by: Old Mr. Wilson on March 14, 2004, 12:56:06 PM
Can anyone help me with some info? I am looking for an aftermarket dual exhaust for the GS500 (full system). Does anyone make such a thing? I'd really like something "old style" trumpet megaphone type (chrome).  Thanks for any and all help/info, Wilson

i've never seen a aftermarket dual pipe for a GS...
i do all my fabrication at home and have a friend who has a pipe bender...if more people are interested, maybe i'll have some time to make a prototype dual exhaust

There are some people on the board thats done dual pipes. Levller is one of them, and if I remember correctly Antibody is making some blue prints for them.

the cheap way to do it is to cut both pipes just before they join into one, then get some bent pipes from a autoparts store and work from there...it's not hard if you know how to weld and if you got the right tools

Lev has the shizzle though. You may want to contact him through this site or at his co.uk site.

Don't you need to have some sort of crossover?  Some way to equalize the header lengths.  So I would think some sort of H or X-type config.  I guess my thought is something on pulse scavenging for engine performance...  :dunno:

Hehe, let Leveller and the experts answer :)

My GS450/540 has dual high pipes with Megs made on request by HMF

I wanted the high pipe to take the ground out of play for racing and to give it an old norton look, plus it leaves plenty of room for the required belly pan.

No crossover was used, Its won 5 AMA Sports National Championships in the last few years along with over 50 races, finished 2nd National in Vintage 4 in Wera last year running against 750's. Can you say Runs Good? You can see some pics from last year & years before at http://lizardking.8k.com/

Stay tuned for further updates soon, just finishing installing a GSXR400 (graymarket bike) alum swingarm converted to twin shocks.

Hans (the H in HMF can and will make anything) I'm sure he would knock out a system to meet your wants & needs. I'll post a link for the HMF site soon.

Bob

The European company Remus do a dual opening can for the GS. I think this is what Leveller has as well, maybe the Remus Viper? Someone research more...

Remus is REALLY well known in the Euro-bike markets:  think BMW, Ducati, Bimota...
My Laverda Ghost had a set of Remus' when I bought it...

Find a set of pipes from a EX500 since they have a dual exhaust and are 500cc inline twin.

Since the two bikes share a similar set-up and size it should be easy to cut the stock GS500 system and weld the EX500 system together.

The EX500 system is VERY heavy, very restricted, and not your best bet.
For the canisters, I would recommend something aftermarket - like cheapo supertrapps or cobras...

Any more people working on them?

If I had the money and an extra Yosh pipe, I might take the time to try the dual exhaust. It does seem like a very easy thing to do with some simple welding and bending. I think the dual stacked on one side (a la Monster S4R) would look really nice on the GS
