What options are out there for full exhausts? And maybe, does anyone know which one provides the most power gain? Any information is appreciated, it would be for a 1990 GS500...
Any setups you guys have on your bikes would be nice too, and maybe where you got it...
Thanks,
Scott
i read that yoshimura full exhaust makes the most power on the GS...
there is also a vance & hines full exhaust
No idea which makes the most but the ones I know of are
Yosh
V&H
Jardine
i didn't think yosh was making a pipe for the GS anymore? i can't get anything out of there website...
V&H is only brand still making the full system in the US.
If you come across a Yosh race system snag it-makes the most hp of all the pipes.
Laser, Hindle, Remus, among others are available new in UK but cost runs about US$700+ (I checked).
My '01 makes 44.1 HP at the wheel with K&N pods, rejet, and Jardine full exhaust if that helps. A couple weeks ago someone posted that they found the system somewhere on the net, but I haven't been able to locate another.

One thing though... is Dyno's are different, and bikes are different... A bike that makes 44.1 on one dyno might only make 43 on another, and a bike that starts out at say 40 might make it to 44.1 but one that starts at 38 might make 43... you cant conclude the pipe that made 44 is better than the pipe that made 43 cos the bikes were different. So The real way to compare is before and after done on the same bike and the net gain per pipe. That way bike's starting points are cancelled out and so are dyno differences. Now that info is near impossible to get... cos who in their right mind will plonk down $25-50 for a dyno run on a stock bike. So typically those absolute dyno numbers are not very useful.
Cool.

Dynos can vary as much as 20 percent depending on what brand you run your bike on.
We did a bunch of dyno runs with the gs on a superflow dyno and compared it to an EX500 that had a full pipe and jet kit (stage 1)
I can't remember exactly what the numbers were because they were not impressive on either bike. If memory serves me right the slip-on and re-jetting added about 4hp from stock on the gs. Then the ign. adv. added almost another 2hp. So in the end it was about 3hp down from the EX but had about 4 more hp in the mid range than the jetted and full piped EX. If the gs had a full pipe it might have equalled the EX in peak power but maybe would have lost a little in the mid. That being said, if the EX had an advancer then it most likely would've been up a couple hp.
:dunno:
It's also my experience after dynoing at least 100 bikes that a full system 99.9% of the time will always give more peak HP than a slip-on.
Quote from: ReknelbThen the ign. adv. added almost another 2hp.
I thought the ignition advance (ala Bob Broussard) only affected ignition in low to midrage RPM, but nowhere near at peak HP (high rpm).
OK-
I know that HP numbers vary radically from machine to machine and dyno to dyno. However, I got stock numbers from Motor Cyclist who tested an '01 on a Dynojet 150, the same model that mine was tuned on. The baseline from MC was 39.2. My bike, also an '01, turned out 44.1 with the mods I listed above. While this is not as accurate as baselining the bike than making the mods and re-dynoing, I believe that it is good enough to make some fair comparisons.
