Amoung a bunch of other things, I recently upgraded to the recommended Katana 600 rear shock. One thing that is readily apparent is that the bike sits higher. It goes onto the centerstand much easier (a good thing) and the sidestand now seems too short (a bad thing, but can be corrected using method on Pantablo's page).
But I just noticed that when the centerstand is retracted, it stops when it hits the shock linkage instead of the rubber bumper mounted on the exhaust pipe.
So my questions are:
1. Does this happen to everybody who puts in a better rear shock?
2. More importantly, is this bad?
Note that I suppose another possibility is the rubber bumper is in a slightly different position since I have a slip-on and had also removed and reinstalled the exhaust system; which included separating the can from the pipe.
i noticed the issue with teh side stand being a bit short, but it really hasnt bothered me, it works fine on mine.
I know pablo had to increase his side stand length.
As for the center stand hitting the exhaust.. pablo had his break his exhaust.. so far i have been lucky.. it hasnt affected my exhaust.. i havent padded it properly as yet.

This could very well be the cause - with my slip-on I had to be extra carefull to secure it in a 'proper' position, otherwise the rubber bumber was out of centerstand's way.

I had the same problem with my centerstand hitting the linkage. Nothing to fear. Doesnt hurt anything but can make a little banging noise occasionally from what I can remember.
I had placed a 3/8" plastic extension on the centerstand with a ziptie where it hit the exhaust in order to keep it fixed and prevent it from making any noise (those little noises drive me crazy). This effectively lowered my sidestand. I ended up slamming it down hard in a sharp corner and it popped my exhaust, cracking it at the weld where the can meets the end of the pipe. Only reason the exhaust moved (and broke) though is because I had replaced the rear peg brackets just prior and the exhaust hanger I had was only temporary, allowing the exhaust to be moved by the centerstand...since repaired.
