Title: Safety wire question: Oil fiter cover bolts
Post by: Adam R on March 18, 2004, 07:39:51 PM
These look like PIA bolts to drill.  Is there a special trick to them?  How is silicone sealant viewed?

Someone suggested drilling through the top of the acorn nut two times at diagonal angles.  I haven't tried this yet because safety wire is not required for the practice day but it is for the novice school

They aren't that hard. You can drill across the dome section just once and then wire the nuts is a triangular pattern. That is enough to keep them from turning, which is the whole point of saftey wire.
