Ok, what should I look at if I changed to #40 pilots and still have long warm up time. We're talking about maybe 15-20 minutes.
Even when the bike warms up, the idle is not as steady as it should be. It will fluctuate between about 1000-1400 RPM.
What's the next step here? Carb sync? That's never been done. I really haven't adjusted the idle air mix screw since the bike was put together. I only put it to 2.5 turns out while they were disassembled and left it that way.

40 pilots do help warm up time etc ... but in reality the pilots really make a difference in the 0-1/8 throttle range... right when leaving from a stop... and the in traffic first gear putt along at jogging speed... those barely open throttle situations. The air screw makes idle and to a large extent warm up. I usually start at 3. Up or down from there. Look at intake air leaks and carb synch as well... but if the air screw makes it fine... carb synch isn't your problem anymore. Airleaks should actually be eliminated before you touch anything.

Are these usually adjust while the motor is running or just set it on a cool engine and see how it runs at idle after warmed up?

Usually, you set them at 2 and half or three turns out cold, and then adjust from there while the bike is running.
