Title: Is there a service manual available specific to GS500F?
Post by: paulh on March 27, 2004, 09:41:46 PM
Or would the manual linked from the gstwin home page be sufficient for my new GS500F?  I'm not sure how extensive the differences are.

Thanks,

Paul

Well, there are some changes... headlight, fairing, wiring harness, oil cooler, ummm, I seem to remember something different on top of the engine?  But for almost everything, the Clymer or Haynes manual is a great source for doing your maintenance :) I'd definitely definitely recommend getting one of them!  :thumb:

well here is the thing.

The GS500 has technically been the same since 1989.. execpt for a few minor changes over the years.

The engine is the same for the most part. The Carbs were changed in 2001 to the 34mm carbs that u are using (we have the 34 mm carbs too) The previous generation has the 33mm carbs.

You have the oil cooler and stuff.. we havent mapped that out as yet.. but we can help you out because there are ppl here who have taken apart a GS a few million times.

Anyway where are you from?

The general GS500 manual haynes or clymer manual will do.. it will get you thru.. and im sure someone here will get a GS500f close enough to one of the major members who can help him/her out.

BTW PICS?

I also have a new gs500f, i got a supplementary manual with just the changes in it from my dealer. The only differences in the 04 model are the fairing, oil pump, front shocks, and wiring, so a clymer manual that covers an 02 model with cover the rest.

Cool, I'll ask about that next time I'm back at the dealer.

Thanks!

Heh, shouldn't have mentioned the manual.  Now you're going to be interrogated until you cough up the details    Someone's going to want the info on the oil cooler, especially :)
