So here I was thinking I had a massive problem with fuel being blocked or starved or something, 'cause the bike ran fine unless really pushed, like sustaining 65+ mph, then it bogs down, misses, stalls out. So finally, on Sunday, after riding nearly a hundred miles and checking out mountain top coal mine removal sites in WV, I returned home all set to pull the tank, remove and repair every single thing in the fuel flow path, and guess what I found upon lifting the back of the tank???
CAN YOU GUESS????
The #$%^&* tank valve was turned on by about 1/3. The last time I removed the tank, I must have just barely cranked that valve open, seeing as how I can't see the @$%^&* thing with my bifocals, you can't get a screwdriver into the #$%^& slot, and so here I have been worried like a mad man thinking I bought a *&^%$# defective bike.
So I opened up the valve, slapped the bolts back on, tore outa there and did about 90 on the MFer for at least 15 minutes. No sweat. So I have a great bike, a 2001 with 4400 miles, in absolutely mint condition, from Two Jacks in Wilkes-Barre, PA for only $2650, and they even threw in a new rear tire at no charge.
I am once again a happy, slightly embarrassed, camper. Please everybody, if you have a bike that is running stupid, check the tank valve. Make sure it's on.
Yup done it before... in 99 on a wintry night in canada... 3 miles from home... Mine was closed almost all the way... anyway I stopped at a gas station... and wend and fiddled about in the tool box and under the tank till I managed to get it 1/2 way with my short L shpaed screw driver, and then all the way with the other side of it. Happens to the some of us.
Cool.
