Title: Idle speed screw?
Post by: spdracer75 on March 31, 2004, 08:37:22 PM
Hey all, after figuring out my choke problem, I think I may have disturbed my idle speed screw.

There is a big gold knob on the bottom side of my carbs, about the size of a dime, with rounded edging around it.  Very easy to access even for someone with big paws like me.

I'm assuming this is the idle speed screw, since from what I hear the carb mixture screws are very small, and hard to get at with the carbs on?

Thanks in advance.

mix screws are covered with plugs, which must be removed, unless someone else already did it.  I think you'll probably have to take the carbs off to drill it out if it's still in there.  Pretty detailed pics at this link...

Hope you find it as helpful as I did...

Okay, great glad to hear.  I hate to be a pest, but could someone tell me which way to turn it to set it down all the way, and then a rough guess of how many turns to get it back to factory?

In the choke cable debacle I've been dealing with I know it's been disturbed from where it probably should be.

Thanks in advance

Never mind resetting it all the way. Run your engine warm. Have the bike sit idling and adjust RPM to about 1300.

If it dies at idle, first use choke to keep it alive and find out which way to turn for up.

[edit] Make that 1200 RPM. I just read up the works specs: Idle at 1200 +/- 100 RPM.
