Title: Carbs - gas shooting back out towards airbox.
Post by: shinyside on April 03, 2004, 09:08:40 AM
Hello everyone.   I hope this is an interesting problem.

After coming out of storage, my bike dies if I don't use the throttle to hold if above 2.5K.  It also won't start at all if it isn't warmer than 60 degrees.  I know all the standard stuff to check, but I thought it was odd when I let it drop to around 2K with the airfilter off - gas (fumes) would sputter out of some jet on the bottom edge of the left carb - and only the left carb.

Thanks for looking,
Shinyside

How long was the bike in storage?  The fuel will evaporate out  of the carbs after awhile and leave all those nice additives to gum up your pilot jets/small passges/gunk up your float bowl and mess up the float needle/seat...

The pilot jets are what it runs on at idle mainly... do a good cleaning on both carbs (if you are mechanically inclined)....get a manual  if you need to...

Good luck

Hmmm- I cleaned the carb out.  Actually I don't think it is the idle jet - its a hole that faces the rear of the bike and is located on the bottom edge of the airbox intake.

Did you actually remove the pilots and clean them?
