Does anyone else have a hard time twisting the key from the LOCK to the ON position? I have to shake the handle bars and give it a few good twists before the darn thing turns :guns:. Oh yea, the key isn't original either, so maybe that could be the problem...

yeah, the copy key on mine is a bit hard. If you have an original, match it up and file it ever so slightly. If not, try some WD-40 in the Key cylinder. :thumb:

On my '99 I usually have to push the left bar slightly away from the bike before the key will turn out of the LOCK position. Kind of a drag when your hands are full of stuff, but I'm used to it.

Hey why is the "P" there and what is it used for? I have now twice turned it to far and left my brake light on all day coming back out from work with a dead battery. Seems to me a stupid design.

The main reason is for visibility - say when you're parked on the side of the road at night. If you turn the key ON, your headlight is on even if the engine isn't running, and that will drain your battery faster. If you turn the key OFF you can't even leave a turn signal flashing. The bike doesn't have emergency flashers, so I guess the "P" (Park) position is the next best thing.
PS - If you mount an LED tail light (contact JeffD (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=14) for info) you can probably leave the ignition in the "P" position for a WEEK or two before your battery gets drained. Those LEDs use very little power....

yeah, bars all the way to left. info (i bought it wrecked, rebuilt myself.) still a work in progress, i figure maybe one or both of the trees are slightly tweaked. tis why i am buying those forks from werase, so i can try that hypothesis, and have spares :thumb:
