Title: Rennsports? Good? Bad? Ugly?
Post by: Rollin668 on April 07, 2004, 12:28:20 PM
I'm planning to mount a set of Metzler Rennsports to my GS.  I'm getting a set from a local guy for SUPER cheap ($10 each!!!)... they are slightly used.  Hopefully these will hold me over for a couple months.  I'm getting a couple strange sizes though.  120/60 front and 150/60 rear.  I plan to ONLY commute on the freeway on these tires for a couple months (I think I actually only have 1 highspeed turn each way to deal with) and my commute is about 60-70 miles round trip Monday through Friday.

Anyone see any real issues with using these tires for a little while until I can find a new job?  I'm being laid off, my tires are cracked, and I need to save MONEY for a couple months.  I'll be getting a set of good tires in a couple months once I get back into the swing of having a new job...

I'm not concerned with canyon carving or anything special, just need something to keep the wheels off the ground...

Thanks.

Rennsports are practically same tire as Pirelli Supercorsas.  Are these race take offs?  The tires are very grippy when they heat up.  I wouldn't be too concerned with the oversized profile for comuting.  I would caution you to be very careful in the rain with these tires since they are DOT race tries and not desgned for grip in the wet.  If they're take offs, then chances are they have a decent amount of center tread on them which is what you want for communting.

Thread hijack attempt 1...
For a 70 mile commute you need 7 bikes... as per my calculation... Eventually you'll find out that 7 is about right. I was at a 100 and I ended up with 10...
Cool.
