Hi all,
I hate adjusting the chain on my 1991 GS500E because the damned adjusters aren't accurate! They are sloppy with play on the rear axle and can't reliably be used to keep the wheel in alignment as you adjust the chain.
Has anybody else found them to be a problem and what have you done to fix it?
In all my years of motorcycling, I've never seen chain adjusters this poorly designed.
Thanks for your ideas.
Todd
I know you pain! Push the bottom front flange up with your finger while adjusting and they will be even.
Yea I hate it too... My solution... belt drive... Never needs adjusting... and its lube is clean and non messy and they last forever.
Cool.

yeah belts never need adjusting. my hd never did, but they still need to be aligned. still can be a pita
My solution (as with any adjuster) is to always loosen and tighten left and right adjuster nuts by the same count of revolutions.
ive never heard of a belt that didnt need adjusting
OK the new generation belts... made since atleast the early 80's... have kevlar weaves in the main base for actually carrying load. The teet also have a sorta knit kevlar or polycarbonate faceing and the teeth themselves are integrally moulded in 1 piece. The first 3-500 miles will result in some break in type wear... and you need to re tension it... but after that... they run not ever needing fiddling. Harley idiots dont trust it cos they dont understand it... and they are replacing theirs like its going out of style.
Cool.
