I think you just saved $500+ in shop fees too. Sweet.
ASLAM.
how are those tyres? I'm seriously considering those for my bike. Rainy season is coming soon to Florida so I'll be needing some nice wet tyres.
hey, mine hit 10k this weekend too!

waaaaaaaa you all think 10k is alot
 shoot  I just rolled over 15k last week and it'll hit 16k by week's end
17.5k here
ASLAM.
NOOOO I've been beaten :nana: *must ride further*
hey hehe,
too early to tell. i'll know for sure in the next few days splitting lanes and riding on the stripings. i won't be able to let you know how it handles wetness since we get rain about 3 days a year here in so-cal.
My '89 will hit 10,000 in about 400 Mi. Actually it will hit 33,684 which is 10,000 more than when i bought it in September 2002  I would probably have hit it by next Sunday at Bear Mtn if it wasn't my wifes B'day
Randy...are you still using that "wife has a birthday excuse?? :bs: I suspect that GSJack has all of us beat in miles.........

17.9 here.
I wonder how much life there is in it.
I hit 10,000 on my rear tire 5,000 miles ago.
My bikes at 25k and still running as strong as the day I bought it.
yeah jack has half a trillion miles or 1.5 trillion km on his(http://www.cycleforums.com/forums/images/smilies/awing.gif)
My '93 has 44000 km /27500 mi. on it. Still running great.
Bought my 02 last Sept with a little over 4k on it. It will be turning 10,000 miles shortly, maybe I should get a pic of it. Used the old 97 over the winter and it has almost 80k on it. Bought the 97 new in 3-99.
Gotta re-jet that 97 before next winter. :thumb:
45,000 on the 89 (37K by me) , 7700 (100 by me) on the 91, in addition to the ~6600 (5,000 by me) on the 90 before selling it. Yea GsJack is the man. But my miles have all been commute only...
Cool.
Srinath.
I've got 0 miles on my GS... oh wait I don't have a GS.
I do however have 20,000km on my street '02 SV, would be more but, I sat out most of the season with a blown motor followed by a racing injury.
"Used the old 97 over the winter and it has almost 80k on it. Bought the 97 new in 3-99. "
Got a question for gsjack or anyone else with high mileage (10,000 or more miles) What type of oil do you use and how often did you change it? And also, did you get valves and carbs adjusted? if so, how often?
Thank you. :)

I am just about to hit 10K in say 50 miles or so... so far im still running Castrol GTX 10w40. HOwever i believe some ppl here with high mileage use Rotella (shell) or Delvac motor oils with quite a bit of success.
I did a carb sync done at 4K or so.. (thanks to pkasso) but i havent done jack since then.. i havent adjusted my valves yet.. i got to do that when i reach 16K (according to JohNLA) its the max before we need adjustment. However I believe GSJack went a bit more before adjustment..
So far I do my oil changes every 1500-2500 miles. I check my oil every 200 miles or so..
My '99 is about 300 miles away from 30,000. I have cleaned the carbs once, synch'ed them a couple of times, and checked my valve clearances 2 or 3 times. Last time I checked the valves they were all pretty tight. I need to order some thinner shims soon.
I bought the bike used in Mar 2000 with 1750 miles on it, so it probably had the original oil at the time. I replaced it once with Golden Spectro 4 full synthetic motorcycle oil, and then switched to Mobil 1 15W-50 full synthetic auto oil, which I have used ever since.
My bike still uses VERY little oil between 3,000-mile oil changes.
I checked my valves on the 97 at about 6-700 miles for the 1st time. After that I checked them about every 8k miles or about twice a year. None of the valves required any shim replacement till about 40k miles, all being to spec till then.
I last checked the valves at about 77k miles. Neither of the intake valves has ever been adjusted and both are still to spec. Both of the exhaust valves have been shimmed requiring a thinner shim each time. The clearance closes down on them and they become tight. The one exhaust valve requiring the most frequent adjustment now has the thinnest available shim in it. Since this is now my low milage backup bike, I won't have to decide what to do with it till next year.
I've never touched the carbs on the 97 except for idle speed adjustment. My bikes never sit long enough for the carbs to get gummed up.
I bought the 02 with about 4k plus miles on it and based on my experience with the 97, I will be checking the valve clearance soon at about 10k miles.
I changed from a 10W-40 dino juice to the 15W-50 Mobil 1 synthetic auto oil at about 5k miles. Never added between 3k oil changes till past 50k miles. Oil consumption on the 97 has reached about 3 pints added now between changes. Having heard good things about the truck/diesel oils, I swiched to the 15W-40 Mobil Delvac 1300 oil on the 97 at about 70k miles and change it at 2k intervals as I have always done with dino juice.
Am using the non-synthetic 15W-40 Delvac or Rotella oils in both bikes now. Discovered the 97 ran much cooler with 15W-40 than it did with the 15W-50 Mobil 1 allowing me to drop down one grade in gasoline without it pinging when hot. Will be sticking with these oils till something better comes along. Only $5-6 per gallon at any Walmart or auto parts store.
Do i beat everyone, on my 92 GS, had 37,000miles at MOT b4 last, my sister put 5000 miles on it, and i have put about 3000, new small chrome clocks loook the business, and cleverly grafted mounting mod, so i would guess 45,000 miles and still running purrrrfect!!!
a little follow up after the springs and tires changes... the difference is like day and night. gripping around the corner is much better now, and no more bottom out! should've done this a long time ago!
just hit 67k on my 91
Kerry thats awesome...!! is that because of the oil you use..?? and why 15W50..?? Ok one more...what oil do ya use in the winter..??
On the other topic i just got a pair of those Sport Demons myself along with Progressive springs and a full V+H exhaust. So far i like them demons alot. Even brand new they seem to offer tons more traction than the stock. And as far as the springs lemme tell ya....in NYC i was bottoming out several times daily commuting to work...but no more. The bike feels more rigid which i prefer. Gives me more control or at least it seems to.
Oh and i have an '02 with 6k on it....It's just a baby still... :P
