Last time I had the tank off, I switched from the 7mm ID black hoses (stock) to 5/16" clear urethane fuel hose. It's pretty easy to work with, and slides right on all the fittings easily. I had no leaks, and it fit the 5/16" fuel filters, so I was happy (try finding a 7mm fuel filter!).
This morning, I tried to remove the tank, and was doing my usual "push, twist, pull" on the hoses, when one finally came off... with the brass petcock nipple still attached! I wiped-up the brass, and pressed it back into the tank using a mallet, and it seems to be holding (no leak).
But these clear hoses really seem to grip the brass quite strongly. Even after twisting and pushing on the hose to break the seal against the brass, they are still very grippy, and harder to remove than the stock hose (which is smaller, but stretchy). Does anybody else have this problem, and what do you do about it?
Maybe a little grease between the nipple and the tube?

last time i removed my tank i was pulling the hose off the brass nipple and i pulled it out of the petcock.....my first impresion was WTF :?
i used one of those tubes (gasked makers) and put that around the brass nipple....i works good for now
I had the same problem last year. I gently tapped the brass piece back in and it has never come out or leaked. I'm using 1/4" urathane tubing so it is really tight. That brass tube has not come out since.
I'm not sure why it came out the first time really. It may have been coming loose for a long time, I'm not sure. My bike IS a '90. So I'm sure the tank has been on and off many many times.
I think I will put a dab of grease on there the next time I have them off though.

Maybe I'll try to get a drop of 2-cycle oil in there next time I remove the tank (which will be very soon, since I'm tweaking the jetting).
most of the clear hosing is cheap, so just cut it off and replace it. grease could work too, but why waste expesnse grease on a .75$
