Title: rejetted and....???
Post by: hotbunz4 on April 14, 2004, 10:08:04 PM
so I put a KnN filter, cleaned the carb, put in 150mains, and 3 turns of the idle srew.  Seems to run good, but when I let off the gas to downshift or whatever I get this grumbling/grunting/backfire type sound.  She's also not starting so easy but that may be because of the cold.
I didn't put any washers in the needles, what does this do anywho?
Oh, and I got the carb kits with the rubber dillies, three circle ones
small - float bowl, medium - float thinger, where's the large one go?
great, I think that's it - Thanks,

3 turns sounds like twice as much as you need.  I think mine are at 1.5 out...

The washers make a big difference on my bike at highway speeds.  I did the rejetting and still had lean surging at 60mph.  One washer under each needle and it fixed that issue.

Not sure it will take care of your trouble.  Good luck.

Title: let off and misfire
Post by: The Buddha on April 15, 2004, 07:06:05 AM
I have had this let off and misfire thing on other bikes... Check your float level, and check the choke is actually working, cos the starting issue shouldn't be there... cold or not... I jetted mine in Canada in winter... and with 40 pilots and 3 turns out... it should start second crank and stay running till it hets hot - 2-3 mins and then take off choke and it should idle till you shut it off.  I think your floats may be just that bit low... causing both problems.
Cool.
Srinath.
