does anyone live here in chicago? i thought one or two of you guys did. does anyone know where to get 40 pilot and 127.5 main? i went to chicago cycle center and they said they don't sell 'em.
also here is a dumb question: what exactely does it mean when you say you turn the mixing screw "three turns out"? this is the first time i'm working with my carburetor and i don't want to mess it up. does this mean loosening the screw three 360 degree turns? i know this sounds dumb but i really don''t want to mess up my carburetor, especially after the pain in the ass it is to take it out. thanks for any responses.
The Suzuki part number for the #40 mains is 09492-40014; Chi Cycle Center is a Suz dealer, right?. I have no clue for the 127.5 numbers. As for the idle mixture screw, the common starting point is 3 turns CCW out from being very lightly bottomed out.
about the mix screw...
when you take out the carbs, when you look at the bottom of the carbs you will see 2 brass plugs with a small hole in each plug....you have to drill a biger but not too big hole with a drill and use that hole to screw in a longer screw so you can pull those plugs out...basicly, you want to take those plugs out because there is a screw under each plug...
when you take out the plugs you will see a screw and that is the "fuel mix screw" you have to turn it 3 times out....make sure the screw is all the way in and then turn it 3 times out.....in other words, tighten the screws (clockwise) and then loosen them (counter clockwise) to 3 full (360 degree) turns
The brass plug GRU mentioned is the one labeled "Air/Fuel Mixture screw" in the photo below:

This annoys me. If you have Suzuki part number, you can get it anywhere; if you only know the size and Mikuni number, and have no clue what the Suzuki number might be, then it gets much harder.
