Title: Oil Leak
Post by: J-Lo on April 17, 2004, 01:55:43 PM
I seem to have a small amount of oil leaking, right where the left side engine cover meets the sprocket cover.  The oil leaks at the top of these two covers, and sits on the engine....it's not pouring out..but it's definitely leaking.  Any ideas?   :dunno:

How old is the bike? and is the leak further over the sprocket housing, or the front engine cover. Thought i had a leak recently, and it turned out to be the Scottoiler on to high, leaking all over boot!! Basically monitor how much your oil goes down, if it goes down recognisably more than usual oil comsumption, or it gets worse, best on getting it fixed, but as to the cause maybe the other more technically minded guys in the forum may know  :dunno:
Title: Check valve cover

It is probobly leaking from the back side of the valve cover. Look for leaks there if you can find oil seeping out the gasket then you should tighten screws to manufactures specs( lbs-ft torque). If no sign of oil wipe dry with cloth ,start engine, run till warm (3-5 mins) .Cut the engine off and check again. Put some of the liquid on your finger and smell to see if you can smell gasoline. Check engine oil while cold to be sure of proper level.

My bike is an '02, with about 14,000 KM's.  So it's still fairly new.  The oil leaks from the top of the engine cover, at the top, right where it meets the sprocket cover.  I tightened the bolts already...but I wll tighten them all again to man. specs.  :)
