from what i understand, it's something doing with taking old vintage bikes, "souping them up", and bringing them more up to date and adding power, while still keeping most of the vintage look.
my friend is really into it
they are the coolest.
for an update on the cafe style check out the triumph thruxton, the new ducati retros or the rare honda CB500 from 89-90.

When I was doing it on a Triumph Tiger Cub, wishing it was bigger, faster etc,. the concept was simple, "Last one to the Black-Cat pays" hence the name. There are still a few people knocking them out nowadays, the U.S. Norton commando, Royal Enfields and even a re-born BSA. An Italian outfit at www.borile.it trade solely on the concept.
the term cafe racer was coined in early motorcycle times in great britain
when all the guys rode nortons, vincents or norvins.
they used to race from cafe to cafe. hence the term cafe racer the look
of a cafe racer refers to these style of bikes
