Title: good deal on a 99' 500e?
Post by: stan23 on April 22, 2004, 02:51:55 PM
Hi There!

After much much deliberation and the excellent info on this site, i've decided on the GS500 as my first bike.

I really like the new '04 F models, but I don't want to risk dropping a brand new bike.

I've began looking for used GS500s around me, and found this excellent condition (albeit dented tank from 1 drop) '99 GS500.

The lady (1st owner) is looking to sell it for $2100, and i'm pretty sure I can talk her down to $2K flat. It's got around 10K miles on it. IS this a good deal?

I'm in the SF Bay Area so if anyone else knows of an excellent 'newer' GS500, please shoot me an email

Thanks!

Stan

2K is a good deal, tell her that it'll take like 50-100 to fix that dent properly, wave 1900 in cash in her face, you probly got yourself a bike

Not a bad price but I paid $1800 for my '99 last year with 3600 miles on it.  It was mint and never been down.

Cash talks.....and should get you a little lower.....you aren't getting ripped off...but can do a touch better.

thanks guys!

I'll wave $1900 in her face and see what she says. Also, how difficult would it be to replace the tank? I'm thinking its got to be pretty expensive with the paint and all.

Definitely looking for a group to ride with as well.

Seems *everyone* gets a good deal except me! lol

you havent gotten a bad deal yet so theres still potential for YOU to get a good deal too. new suzuki color matched tank from dealer is about $450. thats what a friend was quoted. if you're negotiating you want to use the highest number you can find (that would be dealer prices now wouldnt it?). good luck.
