Title: i finally put in my jets...
Post by: jkstyle834 on April 24, 2004, 09:28:39 PM
started at 4... ended at 9... but i think it was worth it... but i had hard ass time taking out the pilot jets.... i had to go buy a extracter bit cause those things were in there... and when i took them out..i couldnt even see a hole through them... but i turn out the screws 3 turns out... but the rpm is acting funny... it goes up.. and come down real slow... is that too lean or too rich?? how can i fix this problem?? do i turn pilot air screw more out?? or more in??

What I've seen some racers here say is to turn the screw out a fair amount (say, 3 or 3.5 turns), which should (hopefully) be too rich.  Then slowly turn it in to make it leaner.  As the screw is turned-in, the RPMs should go up as the right mixture is approached.  When you reach the point where the RPMs don't go up anymore, back-out the screw 1/4 turn (richer).

I'm a little confused as to why it is recommended to back-out the screw a bit.  I thought that you wanted to "lean it out" to find the power; making it 1/4 turn richer will just take you farther from that power.

But I suppose it's all acedemic: the main job of the pilot mixture seems to be to get a low, smooth idle, yet so the bike doesn't kill when you pull in the clutch.  If you want it richer on the main jet, then that's the place to fix it.
