Title: Replacing Tires - DIY vs. Shop/Dealer
Post by: Eightmarky on April 25, 2004, 08:30:18 PM
My local dealer charges about $30 dollars over the internet price of a tire and they also charge $30 additional per tire on top of the regular install price if you bring in your own tires.   However, they only charge $25 per tire if you just bring in the wheel itself and this includes mounting and balancing.  Question:

How hard is it really to remove the wheels and reinstall?  DIY saves me about $170.  ($60 per set of tires and $110 in installation fees)

Thanks.

Not too bad if you have a Clymer manual, atleast in my experience...

If you're just talking about taking the wheels off the bike (and not the tires off the wheels), then DIY is the only way to go.  Like Scott said, it's handy to have a manual to walk you through it the first time, but the $20-$25 manual will pay for itself right away.

If you're looking into doing the tire removal and mounting yourself, see the thread
