Title: first time to replace chain and sprockets
Post by: mattman567 on April 28, 2004, 09:08:04 AM
I have been looking online to try and find the best deal on chains and sprockets...sprocket specialists has a great deal, except the chain is out of stock and they have no idea when it will be in stock.  it seems like the best deal I have been able to find still has me spending about 150...which I am willing to do, but I would rather pay less if I can.

I like the prices of Sprocket specialists sprockets...so I guess I am really looking for the best price on a chain...
any suggestions?

kerry,
Thanks for the page, I checked with Dennis Kirk and was able to  get everything for $104 or so.  that even includes an xring chain.  Thanks again.

Did you get a lower price on the chain, or did you buy a chain that I didn't list?  Either way, let me know if I need to update the document!

Also, which sprocket(s) did you get?  Just curious.

Yeah, the thread was has anyone droped 1 to 2 teeth on the front sprocket? (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8334)

That's the one that I did a bunch of catalog research for.  Then I realized that I had already done that research (and more) back in February, when I originally created the text file.

Grrrrr ... I hate doing things twice!  I guess that's why I usually post links to previous threads rather than rehash a topic.

I actually paid more for the  chain...you had listed (under denniskirk) part #11-9981-110.  it was around $47, but in the details the chain was given a max load of 400cc.  the xring that I bought is from parts unlimited (also at denniskirk) for $54. part # 110011110.

JT sprocket (39)# 8003339s...$36
JT Sprocket (16)# 8008016...$13
and that put me just over $100 which made shipping free   :)

as far as updating the document, the only thing I know of is that the sprocket specialist rear sprockets are a little more expensive on the site...I think they are both running a few dollars more, but I remember that you can now buy either one for one price.  Thank you again for your fast reply and very helpful information, Do you have any list like that for tires?

Thanks for the feedback!

Judging from the part numbers and prices, it looks like you bought Sunstar sprockets rather than units from JT Sprockets.  Is that right?

As far as tires, I have gone through the various catalogs multiple times over the past few years, marking as I went.  I'm sure I jotted down some notes at some point, but at thispoint I would have to start all over -- to cover the latest models and prices.

I'll try to crank out a TIRES list one of these days.  But it will have to wait until I get those India trip pages done!
