Ok so I just bought my 92' GS500E and so far I'm very happy with it but I was curious as to the performance numbers on it - Horsepower/Torque?
This is just my learner bike for now but I'll probably end up keeping it even after I get my Gixxer.
Also is SpecII the only place in the US that carries front fairings for the 92 GS500E's? I was riding 300 miles back home after I bought it with NO windshield going about 75-80mph and it felt like the wind was going to knock me off the bike if I didn't crouch down. Very brutal.
What are some good tires that'll fit the rear on this thing? The tread is almost gone and the rear tire isn't exactly rounded anymore...
Look at the bright side. Not having a fairing makes your arms bigger! Good luck with the new GS.

Road tests published since 1989 for GS500:
http://us.f2.yahoofs.com/bc/40396913_138bb/bc/My+Documents/gs500tests.txt?bfVHCkABEEu.7.1EI travel interststes at 80 mph all the time with a small $50 windshield like the Slipstreamer Spitfire. All you really need. Like one in sigpic below.
Search for many threads on tires.
Welcome!
Horsepower? Torque? What are those?
Actually, I've always wondered Where the peak torque was on a stock motor (i.e.: 4000 rpm?)?
Bridgestone BT45's are favored by many here, I suggest the 110/80 front to offset the speedo error, and a 130/70 rear to help with starting off.
Avon's, Metzeler's, Michelin's and Pirelli's are also great tires.
I have a DL650 with a fairing. I think of my GS as the "converitble".
Driving with the top down is twice the fun. I love my GS.

At about 7400 rpm.
I've never noticed any torque below 4000 rpm.

There's a known speedo error?
Would that be why
1. The speedo says I'm going 70 following a truck in the #4 lane on the freeway
2. Sez I'm going 90 with traffic flow in the #1 lane?
Gee, and here I was thinking the speedo cable was just stretched. :/
Thanks, Jack! I couldn't get the link to work.
The speedo is a bit optimistic. Most of them are. Keeps us from speeding. Must be a government cospiracy.
