Title: Anybody have inverted front forks on their GS???
Post by: South East Rocket on April 28, 2004, 03:41:28 PM

I'd love to have them on my GS.

I saw that a member is selling a full set that's pretty much ready to bolt on to the GS.  He's asking a fair price for them, but like I told him, I'm having a hard time spending anymore money on my bike.

I realize that these forks require a different triple clamp, rim to host the dual caliper, set up for two brakes lines, mounting brackets....

Can you find inverted fork to mount on the GS without requiring so many mods and extra parts?  Maybe one that could fit the stock GS rim and conserve the single disc and brake set up...  I know that the dual brakes would be beneficial but it would keep the cost down if I could leave them off.

So basically, I need a cheap inverted fork setup.  Does it exist?  :dunno:

I have the RGV front end , but Suzuki saw fit to beef up the RGV front spindle to 17mm instead of the 15mm of the GS , so although the wheels are the same , the bearings will not match up..so you would have to get an RGV wheel too  :(

95 GSXR complete front end

need to change steering steem in the 95 to the gs stem,  use a good machineshop to press it out and in
then bolt on, have one bushing made so top tree fits over gs stem
need brakets for guages and brakets for light and signal lights

now you have a set of 6 pot calibers on twin rotors with inverted forks and clip ons

No, you can't bore out the stock GS clamps.
GS tubes are 37mm,  Most inverted forks are 45-50mm.

You need the whole front end from whatever donner bike you are using, the best easiest inverteds are 91-95 GSXR 750/1100 inverted forks. The wrinkle is that the steering stem is to long for the GS, so requires that it be machined down or replaced by the GSs.  The easier, better, (and cheaper) option is the the right side up 88-90 GSXR750, or a set of Katana  tubes, with the 17" GS or GSXR wheel on it. These can be grafted on with only needing a spacer or two.

You could modify the stock GS wheel to work on the GSXR forks by changing the bearings, but why bother if you are already going to the trouble of adapting the forks.

For you guys that have adapted inverted fork, what are some of the main improvements you've noticed?

Would the forks from a '03 GSXR1000 work?  FOund a good deal on these but I'm still have to have all the mounting hardware built

Same deal. You have to modify the steering stem to fit to the GS frame. Plus you have to have them revalved and sprung for the GS.

The main advantage is that these thicker forks flex much less than the GS's and you get a degree of external adjustability.

nice front end....
price a wheel, 2 rotors, and a fender...still a good deal

also the steerind stem will have to be pressed out and machined or copied with one that is not hollow...depends on how thick the AL is at the top bearing race after you shave off 5mm of the OD

Yeah you're right, It's a good deal! But I hate to spend anymore money on my GS.  I'm ready for more ponies...  A 04 Gix 600 sounds like fun right now
