I'm about halfway done with my racebike project. I just got done mounting up the bandit 600 rear (17x4.5") wheel. I had to use the gs cush drive as the b6 one was way too wide. The gs one fit perfectly. I also used the gs sprocket side spacer, which will line up the countershaft sprocket with the rear sprocket. The next logical step would have been to use gs wheel bearings to accomadate the smaller gs axle but..... seeing as how I'm a machinist , and this is my el cheapo project, I opted to make my own captive spacers. Basically I had to make a copy of the gs cush drive spacer with an extra section that fit inside the b6 wheel bearing to accomadate the smaller gs axle. (cush spacer fits inside the cush drive between the wheel bearing and the sprocket carrier) The brake side spacer I had to measure up and make, also with an extra section that fit inside the b6 wheel bearing for the gs axle to fit properly. Results equal a perfectly centered b6 rear wheel in a gs swingarm. I'm going to have to shave off about 3/8" off the caliper bracket where the caliper mounts on to line up the gs caliper with the b6 rotor. Total cost=$70 for the rear wheel. I traded a friend 3 f2 sprockets for the gs sprocket and carrier, and bought the b6 rear wheel off a bandit web site.

The front end is off an 89 zx7. 120x17 rubber, floating discs, and dual 4 pots off an f4i. I bought an old zx7 from a friend that had a bad crank, kept the front for the project and parted out the rest and re-couped my 500. To fit the front end I had to press out the zx stem and bore the lower triple to press in the gs stem. The top triple fit on the gs stem so no modding needed. I had to turn 2.5mm off the outside diameter of the rotors to get the f4i calipers to work, but it was worth it because the rotors are still 307.5 mm in dia. and the f4i calipers bolted right up to the zx fork legs. Total cost for the mod=40 dollars for the SS lines (which came with zx9 6 pot calipers..ebay :thumb: ) The f4i calipers were given to me for the project and they just happen to fit, dumb luck :dunno: I'll sell the 6 pot calipers and maybe bring the cost for the front end to $o

So far I have $502 invested in the bike total. I have everything but a front fairing of some sort to put my numbers on. That also includes all my engine parts I had to get for my motor that is almost finished. I got a sweet sponsorship from my good friend Will at www.npsracing.com which basically was a free port and valve job, plus the free use of his shop to mill my head and disassemble/reassemble my motor. I'll update this post as I finish up the bike for anyone who is interested. I also fancied up a race wiring harness from the stocker the other night. It was suprisingly easy. :cheers:

Did you retain the stock swing arm? Also, any internal motor mods? Are you building a WERA clubman bike?

Yep, stock swinger with a gsxr750 shock ($35 ebay :mrgreen: )
I don't do any WERA rounds, too much $$, and too far. I go to Canada, and hopefully I'll make it to nelson ledges for fast trax

Pulled the counter balancer, charging system, and starter. All new crank bearings and rings, ported, milled head, multi angle valve job, degreed cams. 38mm gsxr carbs, yosh pipe, and the old do it yourself ign. adv.
BTW the b6 rear wheel actually weighs less than the gs rear :o

Thats what I thought too until I saw a site that listed them as 43mm, so I measured them and sure enough they were 43mm. They are conventional style, I just replied to the inverted forks thread so he could see my explanation on how I mounted a different front end.
wasn't positive on the diameter but i was pretty dang sure they were RWU
43 makes sense...GSXR's were 43's
What year bandit wheel did you use?
And is the brake rotor diameter the same as the GS?
I have the 89 gsxr wheel mounted. The brake rotor was smaller so just milling the brake braket didn't allow full contact of the brake pads.
I made a new bracket to lower the caliper position.
I used a 95-99 bandit 600 rear wheel. The rotor is the same as your gsxr wheel. The brake pads will still be on 75% of the rotor. Thats enough to get me stopped when I go off the track. I dont use the rear brake while racing. :thumb:
just wanted to update with a couple photos. Just did some painting this weekend with $8 worth of rustoluem and $5 worth of sand paper and scotch brite. :)

Just an update, motor is mounted. Spaced out my 38mm gsxr carbs on sat.. Just have to finish fixing the ex500 yosh exhaust I picked up for 40 dollars, btw it fits fine. I have an extra set of the gsxr carbs if anyone is interested, they need to be spaced out and may need some parts off your gs carbs when fitting.

A friend gave me that tail and said it was off an old rs250, kinda looks like an early 90's zx7 or yzf 750
