Title: Washed my bike
Post by: mp183 on May 02, 2004, 07:53:41 AM
So I washed it for the second time.  Not counting the numerous times I wiped off the bugs.  I took it out this morning to check out the new jet kit and was too busy watching out for the cops and missed the clouds rolling from the back.  Got it all wet again.  So the wash lasted less than 24 hours.  Monday mornig trip to work will be in the rain.  Why do people bother with this washing thing is beyond me.

Don't know much about climatic conditions in North N-J but here you have to wash in winter because they chuck salt all over the roads to de-ice plus I live on the coast and actually park for work on a quayside a few yards from the sea so it's very much a salty maratime environment. Nothing like a spot of salt to speed up corrosion issues! I take your point though, wash the bike, stand back and admire the downpour, bit like mowing the lawn or working on a roof, is there  some unwritten lore.........

I'll only hose it off in the winter if it gets wet.  The dry salt I leave alone.  I do hose it off down on the bottom in the spring time.  Running it in a good spring downpour does the same thing.

The center stand is starting to show rust so I'm going to try to keep spraying it with WD40.  Trying to re-paint is mostly a loosing cause. At the rate this is going I figure I'll wear the bike out before it falls apart from the rust.
