Post by: stephan on May 03, 2004, 04:03:28 PM
Does anyone know if a 2003 Katana shock will fit on my 1990 GS?

Thanks!

If it's a 600 (with the long clevis)- Yes.  I have a 2001 kat600 shock and I believe 2001-2003 use most of the same parts-  but I could be wrong.

if pablo (pantablo) is right then you can't use that shock

quote "The most recommended replacement shock for the GS500 is an '89+ Katana 600 standard issue. The katana was a GSX 600 F.  In most cases Katana is the katana 600 (not 750 or 1100) from 89-02"

I read Pablo's page and did a search on this site for info and it looks like a 2003 Katana 600 shock should work.  I was just wondered if anyone had any experience with one yet.

Thanks for the replies - much appreciated!

i remember that the 2000+ kat shocks use remote reservoirs.  as long as they include this, it should be okay.  if not, then it's junk.

Wow, I'm totally confused.  I searched this site, Pablo's site, GSPower, and the web and am still not sure if this will work or not.

I looked on Bike Bandit and their schematic for a 2000-2002(no 2003 stuff yet) shows the Katana 750 as having a shock with a reservoir, but the Katana 600 has a shock with no reservoir.

Do only the Katana 750s have reservoirs?  Is BikeBandit's schematic wrong?  Anyone out there with a 2000+ Katana shock have any info?
                                      :?  :?  :?

My hope is to find a newer Katana shock because I don't want to mess with grinding anything on my GS to make a GSXR shock fit, or trying to find a spot to mount a shock reservoir canister.

Thanks again!

i was under the impression that all Kat shocks had reservoirs post-2000.  i saw several being sold on eBay as Kat 600 shocks that had the reservoir disconnected, which is why i warned you not to buy anything like that.

the Kat shock that we want is a twin clicker, it has the adjustment on the bottom (like ours) and then another dial up top for adjusting.  it looks exactly like the shock all the way to the right on pablo's page.

you should send an email to the person you're buying the shock from to make absolutely certain that it's the one you're after.

I had a 2001 kat shock before I went to the gsxr one. 2001 kat 600 does not have resevoir. check my site and look at the picture of the kat shock...if the 2003 looks like it (look at how they connect at both ends) they *should* work but I know of no one that has tried it. My site says 89-02 because at the time it was 2002 and that was the most recent model Kat.
