Title: Newbie GS owner with first of many questions
Post by: EvilScooby on May 05, 2004, 01:23:02 PM
I just purchased a used gs500 1995 with 800 miles on it at a ridiculously cheap price, It has been sitting for a while and would not start.

I was getting gas squirting into the air box, while trying to start it.
I took off the carbs and cleaned them thoroughly, I have not tryed to start the bike yet, I jsut want to be sure I covered everything first
I am a little confused on adjusting the float height
I have looked at this link
http://www.gstwin.com/float_height_check.htm
It seems easy but when the hose fills up, I dont understand how you measure it, picture 4 on the link, should it fill up to the edge of the gasket of the float bowl?
In better terms, if I put my hose on the way it is pictured on the link, 4th pic it should fill to the gasket?

I am not afraid to jump in and work on the bike, I also have the clymer's manual. But I am not familair with some of the terms and parts.

I am sure you will be hearing from me often in this forum
It has already helped me out by searching the posts

Thanks

Hmmm.  John didn't hook up the larger images from my original Float Height Check page (http://www.bbburma.net/FloatHeight.htm).

Click on the final picture to look at a larger version.  Hopefully you can see the fuel level a little better.  In the picture the level is OK, but slightly above the gasket.  Somewhere near the gasket should be good.

EDIT: Changed link from sisna.com to bbburma.net
