Title: Charging Battery
Post by: LLrain710 on May 05, 2004, 04:23:04 PM
Another question, im trying to use search, but having problems getting what i want.  Trying to get the bike up and running again, as in my other post.  Besides the carbs needing cleaning im pretty sure i need to charge up the ole battery.  I got the charger today, 1 amp filled the electrolytes to betwwen the lines and hooked up the charger.  I need to know, 1) how long to let it charge.  this battery is dead, has been sitting for a while.  2) The manual says your should see bubbles, i dont really see anything, is it an easily noticable thing or do you really have to look hard?  thanks again

The rule of thumb is one hour for amp/hour of battery.  The GS's battery is 11 amp/hr, so you'd charge it 11hours with a one amp charger.   But depending on how dead the battery is, you may want to vary that slightly.  I'd run it overnight and check in the morning.

i used a 2 amp charger on it, and let it charge for about 4 hours.  been great ever since.  you'll see bubbles in it when it's charged, at least, i did.  but really, if you just get it charged enough to start, it will charge itself back up while the bike is running anyway.
