Title: 2004 GS500f ?
Post by: gamof258 on May 07, 2004, 06:20:57 AM
Ok, I have had this bike now for a month now and its fun to drive, but and I do say but. I can not find a replacement for the stock exhaust, the windshield or a jet kit. The dealer told me there wer a lot of changes over the 2002 model and there is nothing to replace anything yet. I have also called everyone and anyone on my own and have not found anything. How long does it take for these aftermarket items to come out ????

Generally within a year after introduction.  The 04 model is totally new and the demand for aftermarket parts is ,sorry to say this, very limited.  Give it some time, and just enjoy your new bike. They will catch up soon, just have your pockets full to empty on stuff.

Welcome to the board!

Have you already broken-in the bike? It is usually a good idea to break-in the bike before you begin modifications of the engine, for reliability reasons and warranty.

Remember, the basis to a jet kit is swapping out the smaller for larger jets.  You may not be able to order an actual kit but I promise you'll be able to order larger mikuni jets and I'm willing to bet that they're going to be the same as the 01 and newer bikes.  So, unless you've got documentation on the jet sizes, pull the carbs off the bike and take a look.

If for some reason the air filters aren't the same you cn measure the intake diameters on the carbs and order individual clamp ons.

It looked like the exhaust might have been enlarged for the 04 year... but I can bet that the exhaust header's are probably the same and should take a Vance and hines.  However I don't know how the plastic and the pipes will match - although I bet they'll be close.  If not, you should be able to find a slip on.

Do some homework and make things happen.
