Anybody removed the speedometer cable and housing. I'm working on a '91 with a broken cable, but I havn't quite figured out how to get the housing and the very tip of the cable out of the sending unit.
Thanks

You can't get the worm screw out without tearing it apart.
Unscrew the cable from the spacer/sending unit. Take a plastic wheel air valve cap and put it over the opening in the spacer. Glue it in place by smearing RTV in the gap between the cap and the spacer. Rock the bike back and forth a little before the RTV dries to make sure it still turns freely.
You can also use an extra right side spacer to replace the speedo spacer if you have one laying around or are willing to buy another.
I actually have another GS that I'm using for parts, so I could switch the whole assy. over. This bike will be used for several 300+ mile trips this summer(have to go to Charlotte, NC for training), so I need a working speedometer and trip meter. I just have to have all of this finished by Friday..................
