Title: Tank Gas chicken / Gas Valve Position
Post by: HomeNuget on May 09, 2004, 08:32:25 PM
AS I mentioned in my sales post, my 1996 Gs500's performance was lagging. I cracked the carbs, and there was virtually no corrosion, just a little on the little pins hanging from the floats, whitch was an issue obviously, yet very minimal. I cleaned them, and reasembled. Yet since I am the secound owner of the bike, I am not sure, and can not find any where that definse the actual open position for this valve on the tank. It was set so the slot was pointing the the on lable, yet it turns farther then that away from the off position. so using the screw driver slot as the marker, where is it suposed to be facing.

to the rear of the bike is closed

down is facing the word on

yet it turns past the word on, and faces to the front of the bike.

???

yes, as I see the way it is designed is the valve is a hole in a metal cylinder, and not a shutoff valve where it unscrews open.

These are the kinds of things that happen when you work in construction as a laboror for too long, your brain turns to mush.

I keep this motto "when in doubt, ask someone to make sure."

thanks again
