Hello everyone, I am new to the forum as well to riding a motorcyle. I have already took and pass a motorcycle training course. I'm thinking of purchasing a 2000 suzuki gs500e this friday. I'm 6'2 and 250lbs, would the gs500e be a good bike for me to learn on, and is it good on the highway? Your comments and feedbacks will be of great help to me. Thanks.
hey cartel. good choice on the GS :thumb:
your height shouldn't be a problem. I'm 6'3" and I find the GS very comfortable. There are lots of 6'+ riders on this forum... they can't all be wrong 8) I can't speak too much the weight issue, because I am a bean-pole at 165, but the GS has plentyof power. All it is missing is the highway speed roll-on power that you get from bikes with twice the hp. I rode my GS on the highway regularly and never had an problems or felt unsafe though. She cruised at 80 or 90 comfortably.
Excellent choice. You cannot go wrong riding the GS. welcome to the site.
I'm about 230 and 6'1 and i dont have any problems. I think i might adjust the suspension a notch soon though. I even had my girlfriend on the back and its more than enough power to get any new rider in trouble. My gs is my first bike too...and i love it.

haha, i'm 6-2 and 250lbs too. my newly acquired gs fits me fine (it's a 97, tho). GS is a really good choice :thumb: welcome
The GS is a great bike to learn on, and it is wonderful around town. Personally, if I ever plan to do a lot of interstate riding, I will probably get a more powerful bike with more wind protection. My GS will go on the highway okay, but I don't enjoy it much.

I'm really excited on my first bike, and being on the road. Thanks again for everyone help. I will keep you posted after taking the bike on the road friday.

I am 230 and my girl is 120 and we been riding all over the place with a 1990 GS. You should have no issues.
Congrats! :thumb:
Have fun and keep the shiny side up :)
Sorry randon, you won't beat Pablo. He weighs in at a staggering 120 something isn't he? He's got the fastest GS. I love mine though. You'll hear alot of talk about, "When you outgrow this bike." I never will.

I'm 6'3 225lbs and it's very comfortable. But after about 200 miles of riding it I already know I want a bigger bike. The gs500 is very comfortable but I think there would be a bike that would better fit me. I will ride the gs for a season or two and then look into getting something bigger. My gs is my learning bike and I am very happy with it.

I'm 5'8 140lbs. My inch gives me better jet stream ;)
I loved learning on the GS. I have 11,000 miles so far this year. Can't wait to get a little bigger bike 6' 230. I will probly still ride the GS when it is raining, instead of the bigger bike
