Title: Are GS 500 starters know to go out?
Post by: jpw on May 13, 2004, 03:48:36 PM
Well i was looking at this GS-500 on ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2478583652&category=6027

And he says the starter just clicks,  I wonder if its just the battery is dead?

I asked him about if the lights come on bright when the key is on, and what the lights do when the start button is pushed.

but i was thinking do the lights only come on if the bike is running?

First of all- BUY THIS BIKE!

It's probably just the battery. Starters don't go bad from sitting over the winter. Even if it needs a starter, I have extras. Carb cleaning is simple.
The price will go up, but it will still be a good deal. :thumb:

From what I've gathered, a GS starter is pretty bullet-proof and should be fine for 40K miles or so if not a lot more more.  Most likely the starting problem as Bob mentioned are gummed up carbs.  Could also be something like the starter relay but that's not nearly as likely.

I had a bad starter relay...it was simple to diagnose and cost 20$ to fix.  (I bought one used on this board)  that bike is a steal, you should get it.
