Title: Choke cable installation problems...HELP!
Post by: beards777 on May 14, 2004, 08:28:05 AM
Hi.  My choke cable snapped and I have a new one.  But when i go to install it, it seems like it doesn't fit right.  its the same size i believe as the old cable.  I believe i have the right part.  it seems like there isn't enough cable to install properly into the carb assembly....can anyone shed any light for me!?

If there isn't enough cable, you might want to check the barrel adjuster on your choke switch. Where the cable connects to the switch, there is a little tube that has freedom to rotate. If you rotate it (Facing the direction the cable goes in) clockwise, that loosens it and allows more slack on the cable, and the opposite to loosen it. Hope this helps :thumb:

do you mean on the cable hardware itself ?

i'm pretty sure he means the hardware rotating barrel on the cable itself...this gives some slack yes, but not nearly enough to install correctly into the carb assembly...it needs to be long enough for the two fittings on the carb assembly and it isn't...i'm at a loss.

I'm not sure what you mean about the "two fittings".  You're aiming for a fit like this:

In the picture you can see the curved metal end of the cable housing.  It butts up against a "fitting", you might say.

Try this sequence:EDIT: Changed link from sisna.com to bbburma.net

I believe he means the adjuster and locknut at the handlebar end.

Well, the last thing he said was

That's the statement I was referring to.
